First impression

Founded in 2006 by Jamie Opalchuk, HostPapa, an Ontario-based web hosting company, provides small businesses, web designers, and resellers with a number of web solutions. Those solutions include shared web hosting,  virtual private server (VPS) hosting plans for small businesses, a drag-and-drop website builder, and a powerful multi-site reseller option for designers and IT firms.

HostPapa states that the goal is to give every customer the full-featured hosting packages they are looking for, backed by excellent customer service. HostPapa is an independent hosting provider that offers a decent amount of options with a handful of appealing features in its quite affordable hosting plans.

Trial period

They don’t offer a Free Trial but they are backed with “No‑risk 30‑day money‑back guarantee. 99.9% uptime guarantee. 24/7 support”.

Billing cycle

HostPapa claims its goal is to provide every customer with a fully-featured hosting package at the lowest possible cost without compromising the quality.

You can choose your billing term for 12, 24, or 36 months. As expected, the latest comes with the best discount, but it requires commitment and a higher initial investment.

They do accept direct Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express payments as well as PayPal, using which you can pay with most credit cards.

Control panel

All HostPapa’s hosting management is based on cPanel, and it uses a custom of it. This is immediately intuitive for the new users and always familiar to those who had more than one rodeo with web hosting services.

This is how HostPapa’s cPanel interface looks like:

You’ll use cPanel for a bunch of different stuff like WordPress installation, backups, adding a domain name, email account, and so on.

Installing WordPress with HostPapa is very straightforward. You’ll just have to find the Softaculous App Installer section at the bottom of cPanel and click on the “WordPress” icon.

Limits

On Shared Hosting services, they offer 4 different plans from Start Plan to Ultra Plan hostings which they do have limitations. As for the starter plan it can only host 1 website, create up to 10 email addresses, and up to 100GB SSD Storage while on the highest plan which is the Ultra plan, it can host unlimited websites, create unlimited email addresses, and unlimited SSD Storage plus 4x more server resources.

7-thumb.png

Shared Hosting from HostPapa is suited for all your business needs! It comes with Free Domain Name, Free Website Migration, Free SSL Certificate, and a 30 Day Money Back Guaranteed.

Security

Hostpapa.com has offered various security features such as Protection Power Website Security, SSL Certificate, and Sitelock.

The HostPapa Hosting team developed this feature to protect you from hacks, infections, or Google security notices. With trained security experts available 24/7, you will receive proactive monitoring, advanced CDN, and real-time alerts of potential vulnerabilities. Their ultimate goal is to provide you with a fully operational site.

8-thumb.png

The SSL Certificate serves as a guarantee to your visitors that they are on a secure site. It also ranks you in Google’s Chrome browser as a safe domain.

OS

Their hosting services offer Linux, Windows, and MAC operating service servers.

Support

Hostpapa has Live chat support and their support agent is very quick at responding and very knowledgeable. They also have Email support, Ticketing system and Phone support where you can call themes 24/7.

Conclusion

But is HostPapa the best web host in the market? I would probably say no. The expensive renewal prices push them out of budget shared hosting and will likely be a strain on the bottom line of many smaller websites.

If for some reason you want your website to be hosted in the U.S. or Canada, then HostPapa is definitely one of the best choices.

Pros Cons
  • Free domain with all plans;
  • Standard cPanel interface;
  • Data centers in 3 locations;
  • Eco-friendly approach;
  • Free domain transfer and website migration;
  • Free SSL Certificate.
  • No free automated backups;
  • High renewal prices, (please see screenshots above).

The main advantage of choosing HostPapa as your host is a good value for a price. It offers a decent range of hosting options, a few attractive features (such as a starter plan supporting two websites), superb self-help selection and pocket-friendly prices.

Vishvjeet CheemaAs per my experience Hostpapa is a reliable hosting service for a smaller scale. They provide good service for the price you pay. Speed is good and uptime is fair enough. Interface is also nice and sufficient. Prices not the super cheap but fair enough for the service you are getting.Support is also good.Reda FilaliI've been a client of Hostpapa since 2018 ! The service is Outstanding, and in a continuous progression !!Jordan JonesI have been dying to try HostPapa out, I use to work for Lunarpages which has since been bought and merged into HostPapa. One of the huge problems with Lunarpages was outdated hardware, overcrowded servers, and poor support so I was really curious to see how the experience improved with HostPapa. The main difference of the bat is the fact that HostPapa uses SSD, so they're at least keeping up with technology and hardware. They're very affordable, offering full featured hosting. Performance wise? The website I was developing was WordPress based. I can't really complain, it did need heavily optimising but the performance wasn't the worse I have used or the best. I didn't get to experience support, which is a shame. But the customer did mention that he has always found them helpful.So for the price, performance, and reliability well worth a go on a budget.Berroney Campbell Jr.Their basic package only support two websites but you do get free domain on the other hand web backups isn't free. there is a lot of hidden prices. For share hosting prices are too high, However, speed is above average and support team 24/7 and on pointSyed Sohail BalkhiDuring my 10 years of web development carrier, I had a chance to work on their hosting server many time, I found him very supportive, and server and uptime is also very good. I didn't found any issue with Hostpapa hosting, many of my clients are still using their services and they all are very satisfied with them.Radoslav ChakarovWe had a client with a local pastry shop in Ontario and in need of a reliable server in Canada.Searching around the Internet, HostPapa looked like the best choice - a true-blue Canadian host with affordable rates and plenty of features.I tried the pre-sales chat and the operators there convinced me HostPapa was the right choice. They were very polite and knowledgeable and really seemed like they knew what they were doing.Since then, our website has been running fast and the uptime tests showed nothing unusual.The only thing I didn't like was that we didn't have a backup option available. Sure, we could make our own backups through cPanel, but I would've liked a more automated solution.Haider Al-SaidiVery reliable service, always happy to help and go out of their way to accommodate customers. I have been using Hostpapa services for some time now and not for a single time the team failed my expectations. I am frequent user of the chat window as the work I do is a bit different from the norm, but find the staff always happy to help and provide suggestions.Sudip SenguptaIf you have a site with users based in India, I believe HostPapa can provide you with a great latency benefit. However I have strong doubts on their service reliability and most importantly support. My engagement with their team's support was to explore the possibility of migrating our site to HostPapa's hosting service. At one point I couldn't believe the idiotic answers I was getting from the sales team - either he had no clue on what I was asking or he wasn't interested at all.Dénes SzékelyCompetitive pricing. Yeah. Prepare for trade-offs. Fortunately you will got more for the price than you can expect. Friendly, simple interface, great security tools, overall great default setup security wise. Good knowledgebase, tutorials. The human based support could be better, but is above the market average. Was pleasantly surprised, better than you can expect based on their pricing.Ivan BozicRunning one of their VPS Cpanel server without support package for almost 2 years. Recently, we used their new promotion period to get a new VPS (Venus), and migrated easily to it. Their new VPS packages have double of CPU cores which really proved to be significant for some website codes that we didn't get a chance to optimize fully. As, I'm accessing the server from Europe I wish the latency could be bit better sometimes but beside that we didn't experience any mayor outage.Michael KeoughI have been using lunarpages which was purchased by hostpapa for over 10 years. With the acquisition they have kept many of the things that made the service so outstanding. In fact it is the ONLY hosting provider I have used that has not been hacked in one way or another in the 10 years I have been using them. I highly recommend this service above all others. They have great security, reasonable pricing, referral incentive. All around great company!Mattew JohnsonAfter using HostPapa for two years, I came to appreciate the hosting service mainly because of its outstanding features. The website builder, for example, allows you to set up a website in a snap with lots of add-ons like images, text, videos, widgets and maps. The website builder has lots of responsive themes as well.Their customer support is reliable with the standard 24/7 availability but the weekly webinars and one-on-one consultations set them apart from the competition.Their shared hosting plan is affordable but the VPS plans are pricier. All in all, I would recommend HostPapa.
