First impression
Tophost, one of Italy's oldest hosting providers, was founded back in 2004 by Alessandro Sordi. The company is based in Rome and offers services such as domain registrations, shared hosting, and e-commerce hosting for WordPress and PrestaShop. In 2015 they became part of the DHH SpA Group of companies, and currently host more than 137,000 domains on their servers based in Milan, Frosinone, Sesto San Giovanni, and Lugano.

Trial Period
This Italian provider doesn't offer any free trials to test out their services, nor do they have a money-back guarantee in place. They also only do annual subscriptions so once you sign up, you are in for the long haul, but, as their prices are dirt cheap, you won't lose too much if things don't work out!
Billing Cycle
Tophost only offers annual billing cycles on all their hosting plans, and I can understand why. Their prices are incredibly low, and to charge yearly payments upfront minimizes the hassle of chasing monthly payments or failed transactions, and as there are fewer transactions it also lowers their payment processing fees - making this a smart business decision.
They currently accept all major credit cards, as well as PayPal as valid payment methods.
Control Panel
They include their very own, custom-developed, control panel in all their hosting plans. This panel allows one to manage your accounts, emails, databases, as well as PHP versions, and although it feels rather basic, it will get the job done! Should there be settings that you need changed that fall outside of what this panel can do, simply reach out to their technical support agents and they will happily make the adjustments for you.
Limits
Their hosting plans, all powered by the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP), are available in three options. The 'Topweb' plan, their entry-level option, includes 20GB SSD storage, 30 POP/IMAP email accounts, and 4 MySQL 5.7 databases, ideal for small business sites. Next up is the 'Topweb Plus' plan which upgrades to 30GB SSD space, 50 POP/IMAP email accounts, and 6 MySQL databases.

For eCommerce needs, the 'Topweb Ultra' plan offers 50GB SSD storage, 50 POP/IMAP email accounts, and 6 MySQL databases. All plans include a free domain, SSL certificate, and unlimited traffic. Given the features, these specs deliver exceptional value for the price.

Website Builder
Unfortunately, their plans don’t include a dedicated website builder—something one might typically expect from a budget hosting provider catering primarily to entry-level users. However, they offer what I consider an even better alternative: Their Topweb and TopwebPlus plans come with one-click installations of WordPress or Joomla, while the TopwebUltra plan adds PrestaShop. These CMS platforms provide all the tools needed to effortlessly build any type of website, offering far more flexibility than standard website builders. Even beginners can create professional-looking sites quickly, with no coding experience required.

Security
They protect all their plans through complimentary antivirus and antispam software (SpamAssassin), and free SSL certificates and their network sits behind a Layer 3 Firewall (L3 Firewall), which operates at the network layer of the OSI model, providing security by filtering traffic based on IP addresses, transport protocols (TCP/UDP), and port numbers. Unfortunately, there is no DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack protection (although their support says they have some other measures in place to combat this), web application firewalls (WAF), or 2FA (two-factor authentication) for security at sign in level. One should remember though, that they are a budget-friendly provider, and that you get (maybe even more) than what you pay for!
OS
All their hosting plans run on Linux only, and more specifically, the Debian operating system. This OS is widely used in the hosting industry, often paired with Apache/Nginx, and is famous for being ultra-reliable and very secure. A fun fact about this OS - the name 'Debian' comes from its founder, Ian Murdock, and his then-girlfriend Debra ("Deb" + "Ian").
Support
Right from the start, their support was amazing! Their agents are swift to reply, super-friendly, and very knowledgeable. Users who get stuck and need assistance can reach out to them 24/7 via Live Chat (WhatsApp), email, or through support tickets in their client area. Expect response times of roughly an hour on emails and about 30 minutes on tickets.

Tophost is an ideal hosting provider for small to medium-sized businesses, bloggers, and entry-level users in Italy and Europe who prioritize affordability and simplicity over advanced features, and high-performance servers. Their plans offer solid value with perks like free SSL certificates, blazing-fast SSD storage, and easy 1-click CMS installations (WordPress, Joomla, PrestaShop), making them suitable for users who need reliable, but budget-friendly hosting. Their support is top-notch, and uptime is excellent. In my opinion, this provider is definitely not for advanced users, but is perfect for beginners and small businesses!
