First impression

QServers is a Nigerian web hosting company that was founded in 2004 by Seun Kehinde, who still serves as its CEO to this day. The company first operated under the name Netbuilder Limited, and in 2015, changed its name to QServers Network Limited. They are based in Lagos and currently offer domain registrations, shared hosting, VPS hosting, and SSL certificates.

Trial Period

If you were hoping to test the waters with QServers.ng’s hosting plans through a free trial, I’ve got some bad news - they don’t offer any. That said, their pricing is competitive, and they do offer monthly billing cycles, so even if things don't go as hoped, you won't lose too much. They also don't have a formal money-back guarantee in place, but I was assured by their support that refunds do happen from time to time and are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Billing Cycle

Users who like to have flexibility when it comes to payments will love QServer's shared hosting plans as they let their clients choose between monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, biennial, or even triennial billing cycles, with some decent discounts on offer for the longer commitments. Their VPS plans, however, only offer monthly payments.

They currently accept payments via Paystack and Flutterwave at the time of writing, with more options coming soon.

Control Panel

All their hosting plans come standard with the cPanel control panel, the most widely used panel in the industry and trusted by millions of users worldwide. This panel features an intuitive and user-friendly interface that makes managing all aspects of your website, from email, databases, DNS, and more, a breeze. Their VPS plans also include WHM (WebHost Manager), designed specifically for server administrators and sysadmins to deploy, secure, and optimize servers at scale.

Limits

QServer's shared hosting plans all come with a complimentary .ng domain registration, a free SSL certificate by Let's Encrypt, daily backups, and unlimited MySQL databases, and users can choose between five scalable options. These range from 6GB SSD disc space, 30GB bandwidth, and 5 subdomains on the "Starter" plan, up to 30GB SSD storage space, a 120GB traffic limit, and 30 subdomains on the "Mega", their top-tier option. One needs to be aware, though, that the amount of disc space allocated includes the space your website will take, as well as databases and POP/IMAP email accounts (you get a maximum of 999 email accounts).

Their VPS plans, on the other hand, only come in three choices. The VPS-A comes with Dual Intel XEON CPUs, 1GB RAM, and 25GB disc space. The VPS-B also features Dual Intel XEON CPUs, but the RAM is upgraded to 2GB, and the SSD storage space is 50GB - perfect for small projects. Lastly, the VPS-C, on the other end of the spectrum, boasts Dual Intel XEON CPUs, 4GB RAM, and 75GB SSD storage space, suited for medium-sized projects.

Website Builder

QServer doesn't include any dedicated website builders with their plans, but they do come with the cPanel control panel, which means it includes Softaculous. This auto-installer script library allows users to install CMS's (and other apps) such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and more with a single click. Building a website with these content management systems is one of the easiest ways to get online without touching code. Simply choose a template or theme that fits your style, then customize it with your content, images, and branding. Plugins or extensions add extra features (like contact forms, SEO tools, or online stores), and the built-in editors let you drag and drop elements for a polished look. It's as easy as that - it is also not as restrictive as most standard builders on the market.

Security

The security QServer includes is a huge concern for me, as users are basically left to fend for themselves. Besides built-in spam protection and anti-virus software on their servers, the only further protection they offer is a free SSL certificate by Let's Encrypt. Let's be real - in today's threat landscape, a free SSL certificate and basic anti-virus/spam tools just don't cut it anymore. While these features were decent protection a decade ago, modern websites need proper firewalls, brute-force attack prevention, and real-time malware scanning. Without these, you're basically leaving your front door unlocked with a 'hack me' sign. Any decent host should offer at least some form of DDoS mitigation and automated backups as standard. Definitely not up to scratch in my opinion.

OS

Their OS options are pretty limited across the board. While their shared hosting runs on CentOS (the industry standard for shared environments), their VPS plans only offer a choice between CentOS and AlmaLinux, which feels somewhat restrictive. Don't get me wrong, both are rock-solid, secure operating systems, but having just these two options for VPS plans is disappointing. It would've been nice to see more variety, especially when competitors often include Ubuntu, Debian, or CloudLinux in the mix.

Support

Customer support is an area where they truly shine. Users can reach them via phone, email, or support tickets around the clock, 365 days a year. Their agents are helpful, polite, and quick to respond. My tickets got answered within 2 hours, time and again. I honestly can't fault their support in any way.

Conclusion

Pros Cons
  • Budget Friendly;
  • Good Support;
  • SSD drives on VPS plans.
  • No Free Trial Period;
  • No Refund Policy;
  • Inadequate Security;
  • Limited OS options.

Personally, QServer.ng feels like a budget host that hasn’t kept up with modern expectations. Their security is the absolute bare minimum with just SSL certificates and basic anti-spam and anti-virus protection, and their server performance lacks optimization features like LiteSpeed or NVMe storage. Their support, however, is excellent, but for me, it is not enough to justify them as a good hosting option. Shop around first, there are probably much better options out there.

Tagbo OkoyeA client of mine had there WordPress website on QServers.ng and wanted to add another domain with another website but Qservers packages only allow for 1 websites and 0 add-ons which made the entire process difficult and eventually caused us to migrate. Both shared hosting and wp hosting allow just one domain which makes it difficult to handle multiple websites or a complex application.
