Hosting.com VPS Review
A Powerhouse for Demanding Projects
Over the past few days, I have been lucky enough to test Hosting.com’s VPS (virtual private server) plans, and let me tell you, it's a different beast compared to many of the other budget providers. For users where shared hosting simply isn’t enough anymore (developers, companies, agencies, etc), the next step probably would be to upgrade to a VPS solution. Hosting.com offers a clear but critical choice, you can choose the hands-off comfort of a Managed VPS or go for the complete control of an Unmanaged VPS. This isn't just about picking resources - it's about choosing your level of responsibility. In this review, I will have a look at exactly what you get (and also what you don't) with each of their plans, their billing cycles and how affordable it is, and who each service is best suited for in 2026.
Hosting.com is built on serious hardware, and both their managed and unmanaged VPS plans run on high-performance AMD EPYC CPUs and lightning-fast NVMe SSD disk drives, promising up to 20x faster speeds. They also back this with a 99.9% uptime SLA and around the clock support from their in-house "Guru Crew". So, let’s start this review by looking at their two options and plans.

The Hosting.com VPS Plans:
They offer potential users 4 options to choose from, the VPS XS, VPS S, VPS M, and the VPS L, available in both managed and unmanaged versions. The plans start with the VPS XS plan, their entry-level option, which comes with 2 Core CPUs, 4GB RAM, and 80GB NVMe disk space storage, great for users that have just upgraded from shared hosting. On the other end of the spectrum, they have the VPS L plan, which boasts 16 Core CPUs, 32GB RAM, and 640GB NVMe storage space, in my opinion suited for developers and small to medium sized businesses.
Let’s take a look at what the Hosting.com managed and unmanaged plans means exactly.

The Hosting.com Managed VPS Hosting Plans
Power Without the Headache
Most businesses and developers simply want to focus on their work and not by doing constant server admin. For these types of users, the Hosting.com Managed VPS plans is the golden ticket. Starting at $38/month (on a promotional rate), it's a fully hands-off environment.
What's FULLY Included (They Handle Everything):
Server Management & Monitoring: The Hosting.com support team will handle all the operating system (OS) patches and updates, all software updates, the security hardening, as well as 24/7 performance monitoring.
Proactive Security: Beyond making sure all basic firewall rules are correct, they will also do malware scanning, DDoS attack prevention, and their servers come standard with real-time intrusion detection.
Performance Tuning: When you sign up for one of their managed VPS server plans, they will also optimize it for you. This will include all caching configuration, load balancing, and fine-tuning for applications like WordPress or Magento.
Free Control Panel & CloudLinux: Each plan comes standard with the industry favourite cPanel control panel, and the CloudLinux OS at no extra cost, making website and account management easy and straightforward.
Automated Daily Backups: They backup your data on a daily basis which can be easily restored should things go wrong.
Scalable Plans: You can upgrade CPU, RAM, or storage anytime with absolutely no downtime.
What's NOT Included in their Managed plans:
Full Root Access: Users that go for this option will not get full root access. All core system changes must go through their support team.
Your Application Code: While they manage the server environment, updates and security for your specific website code or custom web applications is your responsibility.

The Hosting.com Unmanaged VPS Hosting Plans
Total Freedom, Total Responsibility
The Hosting.com unmanaged VPS server plans are the raw, unfiltered option for the true tech enthusiast or seasoned system administrator. With this option you will get all the power and none of the training wheels one gets with managed servers.
What's Included in the unmanaged VPS plans:
High-Performance Hardware: As with the Hosting.com managed server plans, you will get the same high-performance AMD EPYC CPUs and blazing-fast NVMe storage, with dual power uplinks, and RAID configurations.
Full Root and SSH Access: They will grant you complete and unrestricted control over your server, and you can install any OS, software, or configuration you like.
A Choice of Operating System: Unlike the Hostuing.com managed servers where you will get ClouLinux installed by default, their unmanaged servers plans will actually offer you a choice of operating systems, such as CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, and more.
Access to Level 3 Support: If you get stuck, you can contact their support for hardware, network, or boot issues.
What's NOT Included (You Handle Everything):
Software Updates & Security: Because the server is ”unmanaged”, you are 100% responsible for all your own updates and security measures, which is normally a huge ongoing task.
Monitoring & Alerts: As no one is watching your server's CPU, disk, or RAM, you will have to set up your own monitoring.
Backups: Automated backups are not included with their unmanaged server plans.
Control Panel: cPanel/WHM is not included as standard, and this would be an additional cost if you want to buy it from them.
The Hosting.com Signup and Registration Process
As one would expect, the signup process is as easy as pie! You simply need to open your browser and navigate to https://www.hosting.com, then hover over the “Hosting & Servers” tab in the top main menu, and then either click on “Managed VPS” or “VPS Hosting (this is for unmanaged options). You will then see the 4 options available, and after making your choice, click on “Buy Now”. The next page will ask you to choose the billing cycle, with options being monthly, yearly, 2 years, or for 3 years, as well as your preferred server location. Next you would need to create an account if you don't have one yet, and lastly, they will ask for your payment method to complete the signup process. Super quick and easy!

Key Features:
Excellent Support: Their Guru Crew Support team is available 24/7/365. They come across as very well trained and knowledgeable. For managed plans, they are your sysadmins, and for unmanaged severs, see them as a hardware lifeline.
Free Site Migration: Hosting.com offers free migration, which in my opinion is a huge plus. They'll move your existing site for free, thus minimizing any downtime.
Global Datacenters: Users can choose from 8+ locations worldwide to place their servers closest to their target audience as possible.

Pros:
Blazing-Fast Performance: The AMD EPYC CPUs and NVMe disk drives deliver excellent speed and performance.
Clear Product Segmentation: The managed vs. unmanaged plans are clearly split, so you know exactly what you're signing up for without any admin surprises.
Truly "Managed" Means Managed: They take the definition seriously by handling ALL the complex backend work.
Scalable: You can easily upgrade the resources on your server, or even move to a more powerful VPS plan.
Cons:
Cost: While they are competitive for their managed service, they are not the cheapest on the market. But then again, you pay for the quality and support.
Unmanaged is Truly Bare Metal: If you opt for one of their unmanaged servers, be prepared for the significant time investment to manage everything yourself.
No Windows VPS Option: Like most mainstream hosts these days, they specialize in Linux-based servers only.
My Verdict
Who is hosting.com VPS Servers For in 2026?
Having gone through what they offers and trying it out for myself, I would say:
Yes, if: You are a business owner, or a developer, or even an agency that views hosting as a critical part of your business infrastructure, not a commodity. If you want managed VPS, you value your time more than saving a few dollars and need a partner to ensure reliability and security. If you want unmanaged VPS, you have the technical expertise and desire for absolute control over a high-performance canvas.
But Rather Look elsewhere if: You are on an extremely tight budget and are looking for the absolute cheapest VPS entry point. If you need a Windows-based server environment. Or, if you want an unmanaged server but secretly hope the host will bail you out of configuration errors—they won't.
My Final Thought: Hosting.com’s VPS offerings carve out a smart niche. They don't try to be everything to everyone. Instead, they deliver a powerful, transparent, and support-backed hosting experience for users who have moved past the basics and are building something serious. Just be honest with yourself about which side of the management fence you belong on.
