HostGator VPS Review 2025

I've just finished putting HostGator's virtual private server offerings through their paces, I looked at their tariffs and if it is competitive in 2025, the initial setup, all the features, pros and cons, and more. As someone who's been around the hosting block a few times (probably more than most), I was rather excited to see how their HostGator VPS pricing and plans compare to some of the big names (not that HostGator is an unknown provider – quite the contrary) in 2025. Are they merely a budget-friendly stepping stone, or are they a genuine contender for your business? In this review, I will delve into their performance claims, their VPS pricing model, as well as the support they provide to give you a clear picture of what they can offer you, the end user.

As HostGator’s VPS optimized plans sit squarely in between their shared hosting and dedicated server hosting plans. It's the logical next option as soon as your website starts outgrowing its shared hosting space, begging for more consistent power and complete isolation, but you're not quite ready to manage a full dedicated machine. HostGator comes across as an all-around user-friendly provider, and that philosophy carries over into their VPS plans. But does that ease of use come at a cost? Let's have a look and find out.

HostGator VPS Hosting Plans Overview

The first thing that struck me as I looked at their website’s VPS page is that they don’t try to confuse users with too many options, their VPS plans are straightforward and transparent. If you sign up with them, you will get three options to choose from, the Snappy 2000, the Snappy 4000, and the Snappy 8000 – names that suggest these servers are fast, and as they all run on next-gen AMD EPYC processors with blazing-fast NVMe drives, I am certain the names will do it justice! Their pricing structure is simple, but you need to pay close attention to the renewal rates, which is a common hurdle in the web hosting industry. and for those hoping for a windows VPS option - you are out of luck as this provider only offers Linux-based servers.

If you sign up with one of their VPS plans, your server will come standard with the AlmaLinux 9 operating system, full root access, a dedicated IP address, a free SSL certificate by Let’s Encrypt, as well as the hugely popular cPanel/WHM to manage your server. It also includes a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Let’s look at each plan individually.

Snappy 2000 Plan

If you choose them as your provider, this is where you will start your VPS journey. This plan comes in at $34.99 per month, which is slightly below the market average, and it renews at $53.99 per month, so just be aware of that before you commit. For that, you get 2 vCPUs, 4GB DDR5 RAM, and 100GB NVMe SSD storage space. This is a very good entry-level server in my opinion, and perfect for websites that have outgrown shared hosting, or even for a developer that doesn’t require that much space. Here’s a recap of what it comes with:

  • 2x vCPUs;
  • 4GB DDR5 RAM;
  • 100GB NVMe Disk space;
  • 1 Dedicated IP Address.

Snappy 4000 Plan

This plan doubles the resources that come with the Snappy 2000, and will set you back $53.99 per month, with a renewal price of $83.99. It is designed to easily handle a growing e-commerce store or a busy business website. This plan comes with:

  • 4x vCPUs;
  • 8GB DDR5 RAM;
  • 200GB NVMe Storage Space;
  • 1 Dedicated IP Address.

Snappy 8000 Plan

When you need superior power and ample storage space, this is your best bet. It is, however, not the cheapest on the market and will cost you an eye-watering $82.99 per month, with a renewal price of $128.99 per month, which basically puts it out of reach of single users. This plan is suited for large, resource-heavy applications or even an agency with multiple websites. It features:

  • 8x vCPUs;
  • 16GB DDR5 RAM;
  • 450GB NVMe Disk Space;
  • 1 Dedicated IP Address.

I have mentioned it before, but feel it is important to say it again - the advertised low price is an introductory offer, and your plan will renew at a much higher cost, so budget for the full renewal cost from the second term onward if you decide to sign up with them.

Purchase & Registration:

To sign up for one of their VPS plans is quick and easy. Simply open up your browser and go to www.hostgator.com, then hover over “Web Hosting” in the top main menu, and then click on “VPS Hosting”. This page will display the three options, and after making your choice, click on “Choose Plan. The next page will ask you to enter the domain name you would like (you can always skip this step if you like), and if it is available it will direct you to the cart page where you need to select your billing cycle (options are between monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, every 2 years, or every 3 years) after which you need to click on “Checkout” to complete the signup process by entering your personal and billing details. This shouldn’t take anyone more than 5 minutes!

  • Full Root Access: They give you full control over your server to install any software your heart desires.
  • Dedicated IP Address: Each plan comes with its own unique IP address.
  • Next Gen AMD EPYC Processors: Powerful, high-performance hardware.

Support

HostGator provides 24/7 support via phone on (855) 684-8171, or via live chat on their website (the widget is at the bottom right of the screen), and you can even request a call back should you want to save your airtime. Their agents are quick to respond, very friendly, and come across as well-trained. I have tested them multiple times on live chat and always received a good answer to my issues within seconds. I can’t fault their support in any way, to be honest.

Security

All HostGator’s VPS server plans come standard with DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack protection, a complimentary SSL certificate by Let’s Encrypt, as well as manual and scheduled backups. Besides these features, which I feel are pretty basic, you are left to fend for yourself.

  • Scalable;
  • High-Performance Hardware;
  • Fast NVMe Storage Drive;
  • Managed VPS Hosting.

Cons:

  • High Renewal Costs;
  • Basic Security;
  • No Support Tickets to Keep Track Of Issues.

Is HostGator VPS the Right Option for You in 2025?

They have a lot going for them, but I feel there is room for improvement, though. Are they the right fit? I would say.

Yes, if:

You are a small business owner, an established blogger, or a developer who needs a simple but solid setup to step into the VPS world. Your technical skills are growing, and you're comfortable with (or want to learn) server administration via root access.

Maybe not so much, if:

Your biggest concern is the long-term cost, as the renewal rates are significantly higher. If you require a hands-off, fully managed service where the host handles all security (that covers more than just the basics) and software updates, a provider like Liquid Web or the managed tiers from Cloudways would be a better fit for you.

Taking everything into account, HostGator’s VPS hosting provides a powerful and user-friendly bridge from standard shared hosting. The hardware is modern, the performance is excellent, and the initial signup cost is market-related. Just go in with your eyes wide open about the renewal pricing and the fact that true management falls on your shoulders, especially security. For the right user, it's a solid and effective choice.
