How much does a newly registered domain cost?
See our special section with prices from best hosting providers and accredited registrars.
Price for an already registered domain
The price depends on several factors. Here are some of the most important ones:
1. Length and memorability
The shorter the name - the easier to remember. Hence, the higher the price.
2. Domain age
The older is the domain the more expensive it is.
3. History
If the domain name was registered a long time ago and the content was changed several times the age won't be that significant. History of domain searches, content, any bans or penalties, etc. should be taken into consideration.
4. Domain subject
It doesn't influence the price all that much since one usually chooses a domain name that is related to the subject.
5. PR index
This and similar indexes have a significant influence on the domain's price evaluation. Especially if the buyer plans to make money on the links from the website. As a result, the higher the rankings the more expensive is the domain.
6. Presence in DMOZ and other directories
Nowadays presence in such directories doesn't matter much and has an average influence on the price. Being listed in these proves a good domain history (no penalties or bans from the search engines).
7. TLD
The influence of TLD on the price of the domain varies depending on it being a gTLD or ccTLD (or maybe an SLD). The domain name itself will influence the price apart from TLD.
8. Hyphens and digits
Hyphens or digits can significantly decrease the price.
9. Similar TLDs
If there are similar domains with different TLDs it might increase the price. For example between movie.co.uk and movie.com, the buyer will most likely go with the second one if it's available.
