First impression

Squarespace is a popular web development and hosting firm founded by Anthony Casalena in New York City, New York, USA in 2004. The American web development and hosting giant makes simple web development and hosting for people and businesses.

It has an intuitive interface, a set of customizable templates, and a bundle of tools to create and manage websites, including e-commerce features, blogging software, and in-built analytics.

Squarespace has a very intuitive interface that both new and experienced web developers can easily use, and is supported by a team of around 1800+ highly trained and skilled professionals.

Trial Period

They provide a 14-day free trial site, which allows you to familiarize yourself with Squarespace and explore all its features in depth before committing to a subscription. You don't need a credit card to begin your trial.

Billing Cycle

New Squarespace customers are eligible for a 10% discount on the first purchase with code GIMME10 (such promotions and codes can change at any time and are one-time only) when checking out and can opt to sign up monthly or annually.

They now accept American Express, Diners Club, Discover (US Dollars only), Japan Credit Bureau (JCB), MasterCard, SEPA direct debit (Euros only), and Visa cards as valid payment.

It must be pointed out, however, that even if they accept Maestro cards, Visa Electron, MasterCard SecureCode, and Verified by Visa, payment to these cards might be declined due to bank policies. Another form of payment without 3D Secure features must then be used in case of payment decline.

Control Panel

Squarespace also had its own, custom-built dashboard for all of its plans. It allows one to manage their sites, domains, and other subscriptions from one location.

Limits

Squarespace offers four different plans: Personal, Business, Commerce Basic, and Commerce Advanced. All of these plans offer essential features such as SEO tools to help your site become more visible, unlimited bandwidth, hosting of videos, access to the Fluid Engine website builder, 2048 Bit SSL / SHA-2 SSL Certificates for security, and the Squarespace AI - an Artificial Intelligence content generator which can assist you in writing drafts of text content for your site based on prompts or existing text.

The Personal Plan is suited for individual blogs or sites and supports up to 2 authors. The remaining plans, however, are infinitely flexible and customizable using CSS and Javascript.

The primary area of difference among these plans lies in the package of commerce features that are offered for online shops. For instance, the Personal Plan offers no or limited selling tools, while the Commerce Plan offers a complete set of selling tools. These tools include Point of Sale functionality, Domain Checkout functionality, and the ability to sell products on social media channels like Facebook and Instagram.

Website Builder

The Fluid Engine is the newest upgraded version of Squarespace's classic editor. While both the Fluid Engine and their classic editor utilize drag-and-drop technology, the Fluid Engine is special in the fact that it incorporates a grid system which gives users a wider variety of block layout options, enhanced background establishment options, and more advanced content customization options. As a result, website building is a quicker, simpler, and highly flexible process.

The user can easily customize one of over 100 professionally designed, mobile-responsive templates to choose from (new ones being introduced regularly), all without learning anything about HTML, JavaScript, or CSS. Perfect whether you're building a blog, portfolio, e-commerce site, or mix of the three.

Security

Squarespace is serious about security and has implemented several measures to protect both user data as well as the sites on its platform, and even has a dedicated Security Operations Center (SOC), which monitors for threats and vulnerabilities 24/7, so your site (and their platform) is always safe.

All websites come with a free SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption as standard to secure data transfers between users and websites, as well as Content Security Policies (CSP) to control and minimize the risk of cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

Their data centers are protected with physical security, including access controls, CCTV cameras, and restricted access to authorized personnel only, and their platform employs firewalls to scan and filter incoming traffic, as well as DDoS Mitigation (Distributed Denial of Service), to detect and block large traffic spikes that would render websites inaccessible.

Squarespace also encourages users to employ strong and unique passwords for their accounts, and to activate two-factor authentication (2FA) offered for additional login security.

Along with these measures, they also make regular backups of their data, which is automated, to ensure that web content can be recovered in the event of data loss or security breach.

OS

They utilize the Linux Operating System for their servers.

Support

Squarespace customers can reach their support staff 24/7 via email support or Live Chat Monday to Friday 4 am to 8 pm EST time. Response time is very fast; in my testing (testing them out a few times), they would respond via email in under 30 minutes and responded almost immediately on Live Chat. You can expect fast response times, on email replied in under 30 minutes in my instance (tested them out a few times), and almost immediate responses on Live Chat. Every single support person I got to speak with, was polite and knowledgeable, which made me believe that their support service is above the norm set by most businesses.

And also, there is the Squarespace Help Center that is full of accessibility tutorials, guides, videos, webinars, and a community forum.

It is notable that there is no Phone support, which can be a letdown to a few.

Conclusion

Pros Cons
  • 14-Day money-back guarantee;
  • Excellent server uptime;
  • Unlimited Disc Space and Bandwidth.
  • Limited to No selling tools on the Personal Plan;
  • No Phone Support.

Squarespace is a rich-featured website builder known for its good-looking designs. Their service helps get an online presence, handle a website, and have an online store up and running instantly. A perfect choice for anyone seeking good-looking, low-cost, and rich-featured website-building services.

Gurpal SinghInspite of having previously designed fascinating templates, squarespace is not a good option to consider when it comes to its uasability for WordPress based website. Along with that the speed is also dally. The only plus point that comes to my mind while using it is support and quite handy user interface.Jose NacasabogSquarespace is a cool website builder with a lot of nice ready made templates that you can use on your projects either just a simple corporate website or an e-commerce website. I think it is best for people who does not require a lot of web development knowledge and web design expertise. They can easily build a website through the page builder which is drag and drop function.I like to use it with clients that are not that techy because it is easy and convenient. The downside in using this hosting is that there are limitations on the layouts like you have to use their own templates and can't customize it like what you wanted to. The pricing is a bit expensive and sometimes lacking in features specially SEO side. I would rate this hosting like 7/10 just because it is convenient to use but overall it is quite lacking. Most of the clients I worked on have switched to Wordpress due to some lacking of features.Faiza GhayyurDespite having previously created fascinating templates, Squarespace is not a viable solution for WordPress-based websites. In addition, the speed is very slower and poor. The only positive aspects that spring to mind while using it their support and a very user-friendly/easy interface.Junaid JamshedFor approximately a year now, my server has consistently maintained excellent uptime and performance, and the customer support has been exceptional. As a result, I opted to acquire a domain through their services, and it is functioning smoothly without overly complex settings. The only issue I've encountered is the apparent absence of certain documentation, which led me to consult other users' hosting tutorials to resolve any uncertainties. Overall, I would rate Squarespace as a 4 out of 5.Rajat KhareSquarespace has a few plans depending on your needs. I tried the personal plan and got a free custom domain with it. I like that all their plans have unlimited bandwitdth and storage. They also provide a lot of mobile-friendly templates. You can also integrations to enhance your experience like Zapier for automation. However, one thing that I did not like was that it does not keep a version history of the website changes. Also, it is a bit on the expensive side compared to other hosting services.erik kovachI have worked with Squarespace in the past.They offer high quality services, and I have never faced any major issues while being their customer. However, their prices are excessive, and, even though they show a low price on the interface, they charge you hidden services, and you have to pay for every small extra feature.Their website interface is user-friendly and they are a professional team that offer a wide variety of services.They are a great alternative for growing your e-commerce, but i believe that the price is too high if you need a small website.You will usually find better and less expensive services, that offer similar or better quality; I would just recommend Squarespace if your needs are very specific to what they offer.Josiah PartinI agree with some of the other reviews I've read on this website when it comes to pricing, SquareSpace has so many ways to make you pay more. Every feature it seems is considered an addon and you have to pay again. The hosting itself is a box platform and I run into speed issues quite frequently which you can't do anything about. The interface is great! The step by step guidance is fantastic for a person that has no web capabilities or knowledge. I wish they would make their pricing better to go along with their great interface. When I've contacted support for my client's website the support reps are quick to respond, knowledgeable and most times are able to answer my questions or issues with a resolution.Eliza MunteanuI found Squarespace to be one of the most expensive domain name providers and despite their minimalistic interface, I found it hard to utilize in order to build my website. They provide indeed many templates that are ready to go but it's not quite optimizable when it comes to replacing those images and adapting the content to the frame. The editor is definitely slower than other hosting providers like Weebly but is a good choice if your business has blogging at its core, being the best alternative to WordPress blog. The SEO tool is also something you want to try out from Squarespace and their live chat comes in always handy. An extra point for how easy it is to get your domain transferred to them with no troubles at all.Ariel murphySquarespace has their own crm for web hosting. If you are familiar with Wix or other page editors, this is great! If you are familiar with WordPress, this is a nightmare. The speed is very laggy, and the user design is not good. It is hard to navigate the site. While I can appreciate the integration to the Square payment processing system, I would not recommend this hosting provider to anyone who wants a cost friendly website with ease of use.Tom SmithSqaurespace is really good for beginners. They have great support, high reliability and are pretty well priced when you compare them to their competitors. Sqaurespace is very easy to use but just like all platforms that are simple to use, it is limited when you want to add specific type of features. In addition, they can sometimes be slow when you compare them to other hosting companies but overall for people that are not web-savvy and don't want to hire a developer than I would recommend Squarespace.Vikram AgarwalSquarespace is not a good service provider to work with. I have been using it for one of my websites and planning to switch my hosting services. The website loads pretty slowly and the inbuilt website builder is not that great. Paying 12$ per month for this service is not at all recommended. You can find a lot of better and cheaper options than Squarespace.Jasmine ParkerSquarespace used to be good. Notice the word used. That is how I feel now. I had a client that had a Squarespace site and we were looking to migrate away from it. I needed some simple data and access that is no issue with any decent web host. They were incompetent and would not take ownership of the issue. Telling me they would call me back and never did - super long hold times and an attitude that they don't want to help. Meanwhile my client was paying something like $20 a month for a not so great service - they lure people in with the drag and drop editor and then charge too much and do not provide service. Don't fall for it!
