First impression

ProHoster is a web hosting service provider founded in 2012. This relatively new provider offers services such as Domain Registration, Shared Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Servers, and VPN services to clients across the globe.

Trial Period

They offer a 14-day free trial on Shared Hosting plans, which is sufficient to test out their services and determine if they are worth signing up for.

Billing Cycle

ProHoster offers their VPS customers the option of paying either on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis, while Shared Hosting clients get the same choices, as well as a triennial payment option.

They currently accept such a wide variety of payment options that if you don't find your preferred method here, you probably won’t find it anywhere. Customers can pay via Visa, Mastercard, Google Pay, Apple Pay, AdvCash, PerfectMoney, PayPal, and Payeer, as well as cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tether, and Ripple.

Control Panel

For shared hosting, cPanel, renowned for simplicity in interface as much as its wide range of features, is provided by ProHoster, with users able to manage websites, email, and databases with great convenience, as well as ISPmanager, an industry stalwart whose lightweight nature and high level of control have earned it popularity.

Vesta Control Panel is a free offering on VPS hosting. The very lightweight and user-friendly web hosting control panel features a slim design with an optimal performance on low-resource servers.

Limits

Their shared hosting plans, all standard with unlimited bandwidth, MySQL databases, and sub-domains,  are available in various scalable options that range from 15GB disc space, 460MB RAM, 10x POP/IMAP email accounts, and a limit of 10 websites on the Unlim-1 plan, which besides the standard HDD offers rather decent specs for a starter plan, up to 200GB storage, 4GB RAM, and unlimited POP/IMAP email accounts and websites hosted on the Unlim-5 plan. It is, however, important to note that the storage still runs on standard HDDs and not fast SSD drives.

In contrast, their VPS plans are available with both Linux and Windows options and on blazing-fast SSD drives, ranging from the entry-level VPS-512-1SSD plan, which includes 2 Core CPUs (LXD), 20GB of SSD disk space, 2GB of RAM, and 1 IPv4 address, to the top-tier VPS-32-4-SSD plan, which features 8 Core CPUs (LXD), 400GB of SSD storage, 42GB of RAM, and 1 IPv4 address.

Website Builder

ProHoster includes the Site Builder Website Builder free of charge in all their Shared Hosting plans. This is an intuitive and powerful tool designed to empower users to create professional-quality websites with ease. It features a drag-and-drop interface, allowing individuals with no coding experience to build visually appealing and fully functional websites. The builder comes with a vast library of customizable templates, covering various industries and styles, ensuring that users can find a design that suits their needs. Additionally, it offers a range of widgets and plugins, such as contact forms, image galleries, and social media integrations, enhancing the website's functionality and user engagement. Site Builder also includes SEO tools to help improve search engine rankings, a feature I find extremely helpful!  

Security

ProHoster's network includes high-tech firewalls and detection systems against intrusions, aimed at removing unauthorized entry and minimizing opportunities for threats, and they use routine security updates and patches to keep systems and programs safe from vulnerabilities. They also include features such as DDoS protection against disruptive attacks and complimentary SSL certificates by Let’s Encrypt, with which they encrypt data transfer and safeguard sensitive information. Account users have several layers of protection, to fully scan sites for various types of danger such as trojans, redirects, shells, backdoors, and malware code. In case they find threats, they automatically move on to repair and secure your site.

OS

They cater to a diverse range of user needs by offering a variety of operating systems on both Shared and VPS Hosting plans. For Shared Hosting, they utilize the robust and widely adopted CloudLinux OS, ensuring a stable and secure web hosting environment. On the VPS hosting front, ProHoster expands the options, allowing users to choose from multiple Linux distributions, including CentOS 7 / 8, Ubuntu 18.04 / 20.04, Debian 9 / 10 / 11, AlmaLinux 8, OracleLinux 8, RockyLinux 8, FreeBSD 12 / 13, as well as Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 / 2016 / 2019.

Support

Their support is somewhat limited compared to most providers as you can only reach them via Email or Support Tickets should you run into problems. What makes matters worse is that their agents are not too responsive as I have waited hours for a reply on email as well as on tickets logged. 

Conclusion

ProHoster presents itself as a solid hosting option with a range of features designed to cater to most needs. Their Shared Hosting plans, although still on outdated HDD technology, offer generous resources and scalability, while their VPS options provide robust performance with various configurations to match different requirements. However, while their security measures and broad payment options are commendable, customer support could use improvement, as response times have been noted to be slower than ideal.
