First impression

IBM Cloud is an Platform-as-a-Service solution that provides businesses with a secure public cloud to manage data and applications. Administrators can employ the cloud activity tracker to view, manage and audit user activity to maintain compliance with industry regulations and business policies.

IBM cloud's load balancer functionality enables supervisors to improve uptime and scale applications by adding or removing servers without disrupting traffic flows. It lets users manage structured and unstructured data through built-in data storage, backups, archives and recovery capabilities. Additionally, the cloud event management functionality allows supervisors to identify, notify and resolve critical incidents.

IBM Cloud delivers data center and cloud services plus a lot more. The complexity of some of the solutions is such that you're probably going to need IBM's services to take advantage of the most advanced applications. While IBM's services will probably be a necessity for some things, the fact that the services are available at all is a huge plus. There are options you have with IBM Cloud that simply aren't available anywhere else.

Trial period

Create your account at no charge. Try over 40 always-free products with no time limit. Your free IBM Cloud account is a Pay-as-you-go account and includes access to 50+ products with a free tier. Only pay for what you use beyond the free tier. No fees or upfront commitments, cancel anytime.

You'll get 40+ always-free products and USD 200 cloud credit. That is how generous IBM is!

Billing cycle

All that flexibility and granularity could add complexity during setup and, while there is a long list of software and services you can add to your cloud, doing so via the IBM Cloud Catalog is primarily a matter of selecting what you want.

You can choose to pay for their services every Month and prices vary on the  server features such as vCPUs, RAM Memory, Storage etc.

Control panel

IBM Cloud's service marketplace offers cPanel integration for managing applications and websites. cPanel is a popular control panel that simplifies the process of managing various aspects of web hosting and server administration, such as email accounts, databases, WordPress installations, SSL certificate management, FTP accounts, and more. This integration can be incredibly convenient for users who are familiar with cPanel's interface and functionalities, streamlining their workflow and making it easier to manage their websites and applications hosted on the IBM Cloud platform.

Limits

IBM has a variety of contracts and service-level agreements (SLAs), and you don't have to have a contract to use IBM Cloud.

Database backup used 300GB of Object Storage, and the hosting site consumed 4 GB of Object Storage. IBM Cloud has ready-to-run MySQL instances, including Compose for MySQL and IBM Cloud SQL Query. The total monthly data transfer allowance, source to destination, was 140 GB—with a destination-to-source allowance of 800 GB.

All other features limit RAM Memory, vCPUs, and Storage and it is pay as you go system based.

Security

Security is a critical aspect of any cloud service, and IBM Cloud takes measures to ensure the protection of its infrastructure and the data of its users. DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) protection helps safeguard against malicious attempts to disrupt the availability of services by overwhelming them with traffic. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption is utilized to establish secure connections between clients and servers, ensuring that data transmitted over the network is encrypted and protected from interception or tampering.

Conclusion

Pros Cons
  • Solid performance.;
  • Supports 40GB networking.;
  • Provides access to lots of data centers.
  • Setup is not as intuitive for the uninitiated as other services such as Rackspace.

IBM Cloud is a big cloud offering of which IaaS is only a part. Part of the package includes things you can't get anywhere else, such as IBM Watson, and the level of service IBM pioneered with its timeshare and outsourcing.

Mohamed HamdyI worked with IBM hosting for my SAAS it was very fast and reliable and impressive technical support and also they support the start-up business and make revolutionary technologies and new features like AI bot and on cloud computing and more.Maybe the cost is a little bit high but with compare of the features I see that's goodMihajlo MilenovicHad mostly good experiences with IBM Cloud, used dedicated server (bare metal) and virtual servers, it is very reliable and fast service. Not among the cheapest though. It is possible to have predictive and flat bill if you chose one of the support plans, but it makes sense only if you have several servers. No shared hosting that I know of on IBM cloud. Support comes if you pay support plan, so I did not use that either. I can't recommend it to average joe, but if you are a medium sized company you can consider.

FAQ

  • ?

    💢Can I create more than one Object Storage service with a Lite plan?

    If you already have a Lite plan instance created, you may create other Standard plan instances, but only one Lite plan instance is allowed.

  • ?

    🔰What happens if I exceed the maximum usage allowed for a Lite plan?

    Once you exceed the allowed usage, the service instance associated with the Lite plan becomes inaccessible. You will receive a warning notification email with corrective steps. If you do not take action, the instance is removed.

  • ?

    💠What if my Lite Plan instance is locked?

    In cases where a Lite Plan instance has exceeded the size limit, and your account is locked or deactivated:

    The COS support team can help to unlock your account.
    Upon enablement, reduce your storage to less than 25GB within a week to prevent it from getting disabled again. Your Lite Plan instance can be reactivated only once. If your usage quota is violated a second time, conversion to a paid plan is required.
