How to create a domain?
People have a variety of meanings in mind when it comes to creating a domain. We will run through the popular ones in this article.
Buying a domain and creating a website
- Choose a domain name, and a Registrar
- Choose and purchase a hosting service.
- Upload website files to the hosting server (set up a database and other settings if needed).
- Test if the website loads correctly in a browser.
Create a domain in the hosting account and upload the files to a directory
For that purpose, you would want to read the hosting company’s FAQ or contact their support. Though each hosting provider has a procedure of their own, here are the general steps:
- Usually, you need to state the domain for the website you’re about to host during hosting package purchase checkout. After purchase, you will receive an email with your account login credentials. A folder which the website files should be uploaded to will be mentioned in the same email.
- If you need to create a domain for another website, check your hosting provider’s website for a section called “Websites” or similar. In that section, you enter the new domain name and the path to a folder where the website files will be located (often created automatically) and click “Create”.
Create a domain at Windows Server
Domains (or domain networks) are also created by system administrators on servers that run on Windows Server OS. Our specialists don’t have enough information to provide you with any advice on this topic. You might want to check this Microsoft article though.
