Sean Thompson
I am a full-time web developer & IT professional with more than 18 years experience. I have been working with numerous hosting companies over the years.
First impression
ExonHost, a Bangladeshi hosting provider, was founded in 2009 by Saleh Ahmed, who delved into the web development and web hosting world during his university days at the Shahjalal University of Science & Technology. From the outset, his goal was to provide enterprise-level hosting solutions at budget-friendly prices. The company was originally named Obosor.com and underwent a few name changes before finally settling as ExonHost in 2015.
In their relatively short existence, they have grown from their humble beginnings to an impressive customer base of over 20,000 clients. Currently, they offer Shared Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Server Hosting, as well as domain registrations to users globally.
Trial Period
Very few providers these days offer a free trial for customers to test out their services, and ExonHost is no different. There is no trial period on offer; however, they do have a 30-day money-back guarantee in place. This allows you to try out their service without any risk whatsoever. If they do not live up to expectations, simply cancel your plan for a full refund.
Billing Cycle
Their Shared Hosting plans, which I find to be very affordable and well-structured, are available on either a monthly or annual basis. Opting for the yearly payment could save you 15%. VPS plans only offer monthly payments with no additional discount available.
They currently accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Maestro, PayPal, Stripe, American Express, and bKash as valid payment methods.
Control Panel
ExonHost utilizes cPanel on all their shared hosting plans. This easy-to-use and intuitive control panel allows you to efficiently manage all aspects of your web hosting account. Additionally, all their VPS plans come with cPanel/WHM installed and configured as standard. However, with full root access, you also have the flexibility to install the control panel of your choice.
Limits
Their Shared Hosting plans, powered by LiteSpeed web servers with LSCache and blazing-fast NVMe SSD drives (which are up to 4 times faster than standard SSD drives), along with Quic-HTTP/3 for accelerating websites and reducing latency through improved parallelization, are performance-driven and remarkably affordable. These plans are available in 3 options, namely Starter, Standard, and Advanced.
Starter comes with 5GB NVMe SSD Storage, 250GB bandwidth, and a limit of 2 websites. Standard features 10GB NVMe SSD Storage, 500GB bandwidth, and up to 5 websites, whilst Advanced boasts 20GB NVMe SSD Storage, 1000GB bandwidth, and a limit of 10 websites. They all include unlimited free SSL certificates by Let’s Encrypt, unlimited POP/IMAP email accounts, unlimited MySQL databases and subdomains, free nightly backups, as well as Security Shield (which I will delve more into later in the Security Section).
Their VPS plans are scalable and offer various options that range from 2 x 2.2 GHz CPUs, 2GB Dedicated RAM, 40GB SSD storage, and 1TB traffic on the OpenVZ SSD 2G, their entry-level VPS plan, right up to 4 x 2.5 GHz CPUs, 8GB Dedicated RAM, 100GB SSD space, and 4TB traffic on the BDIX SSD 8G plan. These also come with full root access, so you will have the ability to take full control of your server.
Website Builder
Unfortunately, ExonHost does not offer a website builder as part of its product range. However, they do provide Softaculous, a software program that allows users to easily install applications like WordPress – which serves as a website builder of sorts. This program comes standard in all Shared Hosting plans.
Security
As mentioned earlier in this review, all Shared Hosting plans include Security Shield, which consists of an Advanced Firewall with Traffic Management, Access Control, SSL/SSH Inspection, and more. Additionally, there's a 20GBps DDoS Protection (distributed denial-of-service attack), Intrusion Detection and protection, Real-Time Malware Detection, Proactive Defense, and Reputation Management. Reputation Management involves monitoring, influencing, growing, and managing what's being said about a business online.
Furthermore, all accounts come standard with unlimited SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt.
OS
ExonHost employs AlmaLinux (currently version 8.9 at the time of writing) on all their Shared Hosting plans. Meanwhile, VPS customers can choose from a variety of operating systems, including OpenBSD, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, CentOS, Debian, Gentoo, Fedora, Core OS, Open SUSE, or Windows Server.
Support
Customer support is available through Live Chat, Phone, and an Email Ticketing system. The well-trained and friendly agents are accessible around the clock and respond swiftly to queries or tickets. In my experience, tickets were answered in less than an hour, and on Live Chat, agents replied within 10 seconds every time.
They also provide a comprehensive knowledge base for users to troubleshoot errors and find known fixes independently.
