VPS Malaysia is a relatively new company. It was founded in 2012. Despite its name, the company provides a variety of hosting packages: shared hosting, reseller hosting, dedicated servers and, of course, VPS.
Registration process
To register an account you can sign up with Google and Facebook. Alternatively, you can fill in your personal and billing information, create a password and hit “Register”.
You will be offered to generate a password during registration. Nice feature, in case you lack time. The whole registration process takes around 5 minutes.
Support
The company provides 24/7 support via ticket system. You can submit a ticket by clicking on the “Support” button in the top left corner on any page. Also, it’s possible to submit a ticket via your account.
The representatives are quick, quite tech-savvy and polite. The average response time is from 30 minutes to two hours. The knowledge base contains basic information regarding the services and most common issues.
Shared Hosting
Packages
The company offers 4 shared hosting packages. Each of them include a free one-year domain registration, an unlimited number of email accounts, MySQL databases and parked domains. A free SSL certificate is also included in each package.
The monthly pricing is average, however, if you order a package for one year, you can get a nice discount (around 50%).
Control panel
cPanel is included in each shared hosting package. This panel is one of the most comfortable and intuitive ones.
Trial period
The company does not offer a trial period. However, it is possible to get a full refund within 30 days after the purchase. According to VPS Malaysia’s policy, hosting (i.e. Forex VPS, Windows VPS, Linux VPS, Web Hosting and Reseller Hosting) customers are eligible for the 30-day Money Back Guarantee but customers of Dedicated Servers and Masternode VPS cannot apply for the refund.
Limits
Don’t forget to check out the Terms of Service before purchasing any package as they contain lots of useful information regarding the package limits. For instance, you are not allowed to run a process that requires more than 30 CPU seconds, or uses more than 5% of all available system resources at any time. Also, it is prohibited to install any IRC software, bittorrents, or file sharing systems.
To view the whole list of the restrictions, click on Terms at the bottom of the page.
Backups and Security
There’s not much information about these features on the website. Shared hosting packages include a firewall and an antivirus. VPS and Dedicated server security is under your own responsibility.
Backups are a paid feature. You will pay 20% of the hosting package fee for them. Looks like you need to ensure your account security on your own.
Billing cycle
Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, biennial and triennial billing cycles for all of the shared hosting packages.
Once your package expires, your data will be preserved within 7 days after the payment due day.
OS
Shared hosting servers run on CentOS. It is one of the most popular and stable systems.
Additional services
1. Domain registration
400+ TLDs are available for registration, including a .com, .co, .info, .org and .net.
2. Reseller hosting
The company offers inexpensive reseller hosting packages. They come with a WHM cPanel Control Panel, unlimited number of domains, RAID 10 Technology and SSD. Once again, you can get a nice discount, if you purchase any package for more than 1 year.
Email
The company offers several email clients that you can get installed in your cPanel:
Roundcube;
- phpList;
- WebMail Lite;
- SquirrelMail;
- Rainloop Webmail;
- OpenNewsletter;
- Postfix Admin.
VPS
Hardware
All VPS servers feature Dual Intel XEON E5-2660v2 processor with 20 cores, 40 threads and a 2.7 GHz processor. This isn’t the newest processor on the market but it handles its tasks well. The servers are also equipped with SSD.
Packages
VPS Malaysia offers a variety of different VPS servers:
- Windows VPS;
- Linux VPS;
- Forex VPS;
- Masternode VPS.
The prices vary from $3.9/mo to $62.14/mo. If you purchase the server for one year, the prices are considerably lower.
In general, the price quality ratio is very good.
Control panel
cPanel is available for all Linux VPS at an additional cost.
OS
It’s possible to get Windows Server, Fedora, Suse, Scientific, Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu installed on the VPS.
Dedicated Server
VPS Malaysia offers two types of dedicated servers:
- the ones that come with the Intel Xeon E3 processor series;
- the ones that come with the Intel Xeon E5 processor series.
It’s possible to install Windows, Debian, CentOS or Ubuntu. Control panels are not included in the package, so you are welcome to install any of your choice.
You can find all of the required characteristics in the package description. The pricing is a bit higher than average, however, all of the servers include lots of disk space and RAM capacity.
Conclusion
This company has more pros than cons. Unfortunately, they do not state much about their security features. This is their biggest disadvantage. Nevertheless, the prices are very affordable, the support team is rather quick and package configurations are good.
So, to sum up, VPS Malaysia can be considered as a good choice for tech-savvy users.
