How often do I need to update the PHP version on the server?
- views 904
Now php 5.1.6 is installed on centos 5.10. I`m not good at site administration, but I know that out-of-date software can negatively affect the site`s performance. My VPS and hosting provider don`t update anything and don`t administrate my site (plan doesn`t include that). I`ll attempt to learn how to update the php manually, but is it worth it to do it?Solutions (1)
this is really an outdated version of the software. You need to update. In particular, update the version of PHP to the version that is supported by the scripts you are using. Also, you should check if there is an update for the scripts you use, so that they are compatible with the newer versions of PHP. As a rule, even if administration is not included in the cost of the service plan, then the technical support of your hosting provider can perform the software update for an additional feet. You can clarify this via their technical support.Answers (4)Hi, it`s worth it to update everything because developers don`t work with older versions. And old software increases the likelihood of your server/site being hacked. But the question is whether your site will work on a newer version of php after the update.Good afternoon. It is definitely worth it to update the VDS software. And even more worth it to move on to us - we have a new one :)If the service doesn`t include basic administration, then you need to monitor the updates yourself. After the transition, there may be problems with the correct operation of the site itself, because with the change in PHP, compatibility problems may arise.Of course it is better to update. We have administration on virtual servers for free and our specialists monitor that, so you are welcome)
