Sean Thompson
I am a full-time web developer & IT professional with more than 18 years experience. I have been working with numerous hosting companies over the years.
First impression
GlobeHost is an Indian web hosting provider that was founded by Vinay Goyal, who is also their acting CEO, in 2010 in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, India. They offer an affordable and reliable array of web hosting services that include Shared Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Server Hosting, as well as a few add-on services such as Bulk SMS, PPC (Pay Per Click) Management, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and Website Design. They have racked up an impressive and constantly growing customer base of over 33,000 customers, with close to 60,000 hosting accounts sold to date.
Trial Period
No free trial period is on offer to test out their services to see if they are the right fit for you, however, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee in place on all their Hosting plans. Should you feel unsatisfied with their hosting or service, and still fall within the initial 30 days, simply cancel your account for a full refund.
It is important to note that services such as Domain Registrations and SSL certificates don’t fall under this guarantee.
Billing Cycle
GlobeHost provides its customers with various signup lengths. On their Shared Hosting, available in both standard HHD or SSD options, users can choose between paying annually, biennially, triennially, quinquennially, or for 10 years at a time. I must admit that I have very rarely seen any provider offering 5-year terms let alone 10 years at a time. In contrast, VPS plans only offer monthly payments.
They currently accept PayPal, Mastercard, Visa, Maestro, RuPay, and UPI/BHIM Payments as valid payment methods.
Control Panel
Both their Shared and VPS hosting plans come with cPanel, a user-friendly interface that simplifies the management of various aspects of hosting accounts, including DNS, emails, and databases, making it a breeze to use for both seasoned developers and beginners alike.
Their Windows-based plans come with Plesk.
Limits
Their Shared Hosting plans, available in both Linux and Windows, come in 5 scalable options, namely the Basic, Standard, Advanced, Business, and Unlimited. Something that makes GlobeHost stand out for me is that these plans come in both standard HDD as well as SSD options, offering something for budget-conscious customers and performance junkies alike.
The Basic plan offers 250MB disc space, 5x MySQL databases, 10GB traffic limit, with 5x POP/IMAP email accounts, and in my opinion, it does the name justice as this plan is very basic, I am not sure what you can host on only 250MB nowadays. This is also the only plan with a limit on MySQL databases and email accounts. The Starter packs a bit more punch with 2GB disc space and 50GB bandwidth, whilst the Advanced plan features 5GB space and 100GB traffic. The Business and Unlimited plans both boast unlimited disc space and bandwidth, and the only thing that sets these two apart is that the Business plan is limited to only 1 website whilst the Unlimited has no limits.
Their VPS plans offer 4 distinct plans, also available in both standard HDD and super-fast SSD drives, ranging from 2 Core CPUs, 2GB RAM, and 20 GB disc space on the VPS 1 plan, right up to 4 Core CPUs, 8GB RAM, and 120GB space on the VPS4 plan.
Website Builder
In addition to WordPress, a widely-used CMS that enables website creation and customization through its plugin architecture and template system, GlobeHost's Shared Hosting plans do not offer a dedicated website builder. However, they do provide a custom website design service for an extra fee, constructing static websites using platforms like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, CMS, and PHP.
Security
GlogeHost security comes in the form of a network firewall, to protect against unauthorized access, do network traffic filtering, block malicious content, and prevent data breaches and sensitive information leakage, as well as DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack protection, which is a cybercrime in which the attacker floods a server with internet traffic to prevent users from accessing connected online services and sites. Furthermore, all plans come standard with virus and spam protection, with data being analyzed in real-time, free SSL certificates by Let’s Encrypt, and complimentary daily backups.
More advanced SSL certificates from Comodo, PositiveSSL, and EssentialSSL to name a few, can also be purchased should one need Wildcard, Multi Domain, or Extended Validation certificates.
OS
GlobeHost employs the CentOS Operating System for its Linux-based plans. This platform, widely adopted and community-driven, is designed to offer a robust foundation for open-source communities to develop upon. It is derived from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. For their Windows plans, GlobeHost operates on the Windows Server 2022 (Standard) 64-bit OS.
Support
Support is available around the clock via Live Chat, Email, and Phone from friendly agents. Response times are quick, you can expect to get answered within mere seconds on live chat, however, emails take a bit longer, in my case I usually got a reply in about 4 hours. Unfortunately, their website doesn’t offer a knowledge base to search for solutions to common issues yourself.
